I've got an urge to solve this world around us
to bring every mystery to a close
We search for answers all the time
and I'd like to bring you along for the ride
so I find myself holding this pose.

there's a sweet smell in the air

take a moment to linger there.
There's so much we wish to rewind
or fast forward through
to relive or skip to the good part
to bend time as we choose.
The slight chill in this town
this morning defends another route:
there's joy, there's love
right here and now

the sun above the hills
it reminds us
to listen, to be still.
Surrounded by the sound of life--
the music of this world--
and rolling hills of greenery,
the rapids of my mind
can slow their normal swirl
for a breath.
A moment of relief.
Carolina,
the morning comes alive
and I find a
reminder here inside.
Carolina,
the future is never known.
What defines us
is this heart that we carry home.

Fighting the urge to draw you out
of the corner of my mind;
to manifest who you might be
from the charcoal and pencil of time.
You're somewhere down the road
a toolbox in your hand
waiting to build the future
your heart has planned
What could we teach each other?
Can you whistle with your forefinger and thumb,
some slight of hand, or how to rise from tragedy
while still leading with love?
Will we spend our nights together
ugly laughing with tears in our eyes?
Will we beg the morning to
stand down to give us more time?
There's no map we can draw
from your heartbeat to mine.
You just have to take a risk,
and turn down a few wrong roads
before you find what's right–
and hope you make good time.
I hope you're making good time.
